Video cassette produced by the Israel State Archives in collaboration with
Yad Vashem – the Holocaust Martyrs and Heroes' Remembrance Authority; Stephen Spielberg Jewish Film Archive
The trial of Adolf Eichmann, previously a SS-Obersturmbannführer in charge of the deportation and extermination of entire Jewish communities in Europe, opened in April 1961 in the Jerusalem District Court. This video cassette is a compilation of testimonies from the trial which lasted ten weeks. The witnesses on the witness stand were in Jerusalem, but in spirit they were far away – in the village, the ghetto or the concentration camp. For more information about the trial, see the section on Files on the Holocaust at the ISA.
The English heard on the soundtrack is the trial's original simultaneous translation.
