Preservation and Restoration Department

The Israel State Archives takes measures to preserve all the types of records in its care: documents, photographs, maps, posters, books, and so on. The laboratory staff carry out highly professional restoration and preservation work, as recommended by international committees, rescuing material damaged by water, mildew and pests.

The laboratory staff hold training and instruction sessions for archive workers in government ministries, local authorities, and in colleges where archival studies are taught. The laboratory provides professional guidance to local authorities, for example examining buildings to check their suitability to serve as a city's official archive.

The staff also carry out restoration and preservation work for government offices and archives, as a paid service, conduct research and provide professional advice to interested parties.
