About Us
Supervision and Training Department

The Supervision and Training Department is in charge of locating archival material held in Government ministries, state institutions, local authorities and  by private institutions and individuals, which is suitable for permanent preservation in the Israel State Archives. At the same time, the department determines the appropriate timeline for keeping and for destroying records of the professional and administrative operations of the above-mentioned institutions and bodies. The department is responsible for determining policy for keeping various types of records, including electronic records, and for organizing the information, managing and safeguarding it.

Department employees provide guidance to staff producing documentation in Government ministries and offices, in corporations, local authorities and religious councils, on how to arrange and organize the archival material in their possession. The staff are also given training on how to build filing systems and classify the records, so as to make it easier to find documents while they are still active and retrieve them once they are deposited in the Israel State Archives.

The department creates procedures for managing active records and archival records and determining their fate – destruction or preservation.

The department is responsible for developing instructional programmes and training courses for employees dealing with records in the institutions and offices which it supervises; for planning and carrying out training for various sectors, seminars and long-term training.
